This is true. Our pool was covered w/ a black cover all winter and it still managed to grow algae (even though for at least a week or so it was chlorinated).

I just finished my redneck chicken water (RCW) using a plastic 55 gal. barrel and am planning on using it for my 14 chicks when I'm gone for extended time periods (weekends to weeks at a time).
