I have two of those types of roosts in my coop. Not that great a picture, but here's one of 'em.

The other one is exactly like this one, only on a wall perpindicular to that one.

And yes, the top rung of each ladder roost is always crowded.... more so than any other rung. Nobody uses the bottom one!

Very nice. I would not do heat lamps in W. VA. I've lived in much colder climates and the heat of the chickens is more than enough. Too much heat would risk increasing respiratory illnesses and parasites.

Wow - impressive

I have some photos of the roost ladder we built on my page. I was going to do the hinges but I used S Hooks instead, so I can take it out if needed.

I read about using a huge square washing machine tray for large spaces, if the dimensions are right for yours I highly recommend the "poop board".
