Well, I spent most of the day digging slop out of the chicken yard and replacing it with sand, but I still made time for my girlies on the 9 month anniversary of their joining the family. :D

Frou-Frou the blue splash Marans had a lot of complaining to do about the mud.

1000

She then went to work making a nest in the sand in the corner of the coop.

1000

Biddy-bird the speckled Sussex was not in the mood for pictures after a sudden downpour of rain soaked her feathers.

1000

She made her objection quite clear.

1000

Poggy the speckled Sussex posed pretty for me. She always poses so well for pictures. :love

1000

Fancy the partridge Plymouth Rock was too busy in the nest...

1000

...So I moved on to her 'twin', She Who Sleeps Standing Up. She Who was drinking in the rain. Ugh.

1000

Frou-frou had laid her egg by then and was protecting it like a good girl. This was so sweet. :love

1000

Fancy had finished in the nests and posed nicely for a picture.

1000

She Who took on egg song duties for her sister.

1000

Biddy-bird joined in the egg song.

1000

She then gave me a nice pose as well.

1000

And, well, that's it. :th I'm worn out. Good night, BYCers.

Lovely! Thanks so much for sharing!

I have Speckled Sussex eggs in my incubator. So hoping for some to hatch! (Bet they'll all be cockerels... Just my luck as a roo-hatcher.)

Yours are lovely examples of exactly what I want to add to my flock.

Thank you both for the comments! :)

gryeyes, they're lovely birds. I'm sure you'll love them. :D A bit on the pushy side when they're curious about something, though. I'm practically juggling those two to keep them out of the feed shed while I'm getting the chicken feed around in the morning.
