So I found out my "friend" is a registered sex offender today.
Needless to say, we're not friends anymore...

Well- that was my day in a nutshell...
How was yours?

That's kind of creepy. How did you find out? Did it just sort of come out in conversation? Wow, I can't imagine what you must be going through.
I'm sorry.

Have you considered asking him or her what the rest of the story is?

I have a nephew who likes little boys, including his own. Ugh.

On the other hand, this label has been attached to too many people without real justiification. Works real well for custody and child support cases.

Yeah- pretty much. He and his wife, I thought, were fun people to hang out with. Then someone at work said, "you know he's a RSO?" So I got online and looked it up. Yep- he is! Then I get to thinking of all the comments that I brushed off as "goofing off" and I got goosebumps. This dude is a freak.

But, such is life I guess. People come, people go, only the important and nessceary ones stay around for a while.

We'll stay around for a long while

and I don't even have time to offend someone sexually. hmmm, maybe I should call a buddy of mine, he could use some offending.

I think I would try to find out the whole tory, although, if he was a real friend, he would not have let you find out through the grapevine. He would/should have said something up front, I would think.

He lives about an hour from me, but here's the thing- this is something you do not discuss over the phone... Meaning, I want to see his face when I drop the bomb. I've heard third-party what happened, but I want to hear it from him. He is on the IOWA registry, so he is, according to IOWA LAW, a registered sex offender- meaning he has been tried, and found guilty. The age of his victim was listed on the registry as 0-13 and his age when it happened would have been 27. So, there ya go. Signed, sealed, and delivered. But yes, I do want his side of the story.

thats just sick..and to think he is still out there walking around...like nothing ever happened.. i think they need to be locked up for life when they mess with kids, spec that young...something is not right with thier brain!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here....

What was he charged with?

His victim was 13? He was 27?

Before we get all bend out of shape here; he has been tried and done his time. You do not know the entire story of what happened and you are making judgements based on internet information and gossip. Get his side of the story before you make hasty decisions. I am not condoning what he did, but remember this; not very long ago in this country it was perfectly acceptable for someone that age to date and marry someone that age. Maybe the girl was extremely advanced for her age and lied to him?

When I was in HS a girl in my class was dating (and got married to) a guy who was 33 when she was 17.... and her parents thought it was perfectly acceptable. Not saying that I thought it was..... just saying...

Well, this could be a tricky one, but with the age difference . . .once a pedaphile always a pedaphile. If the victim had been in the teens then it could have very simply been a relationship gone bad, and he was convicted because of the age thing . . .but this sounds sinister and I don't think he is someone you would want to be around in any way, shape, or form. Sorry about this, it really stinks.
