Here's the fox that's been friends with my chickens

Oh yikes. The poor thing. Do not touch it... but if you did I think you would find it's very thin. My feeling is the reason it came into the bait is because it's desperate.

I agree with the rest: animals carve out their own territory, they know where to find food and water, they know where it's not safe to go (dangerous dogs etc.) and putting it smack in the middle of another animal's territory means it will die at the teeth and claws of another animal just anxious to survive and defend its territory.

Please put it out of its misery. Relocating it is just making it die in misery somewhere you can't see it die.

I know many will not agree!

But why not see what your local wildlife rescue advises. The are knowledgeable regarding local ordinances State and Federal regulations, and if it is not worth their time they will advise the euthinasia option. Honestly, I wouldn't want to trap an opossum in my area and have any questions related to it's disposition once trapped. Only because I know possums are so very common here but a red fox in my area would be quite uncommon. I vote you phone a friend on this one!

I think it was a mistake to trap him to start with, this fox didn't attack your chickens you should have left him alone, what will happen now; another fox will take his place and you will have a devil you don't know. There is a fox I spot in my security cameras every now and then, as long as he leaves my hens alone I will leave him alone, I have the trap ready to set, it takes 10 minutes to do so but I am keeping my hands away from it, I am not trying to be fair with him but I am afraid if I catch this fox another one will come and decide to go straight for me hens. Now this fox is trap smart and it has to go.

I think he should get medical attention! The poor fox!! I would take him to the vet, and see what they have to say, and either release him back to where you are as long as you know he won't harm your chickens, otherwise, take him to wildlife specialists and they should be successfully relocate him.

Jeez guys. I trapped the fox bc I saw it was sick and I didnt want it to spread mange to my dog, family, anything else. It was RIGHT by my back door. I dont understand the hostility to me trapping a fox. And just because the fox didnt attack my hens doesnt mean it wont either. Food is growing scarce now. Im calling fish and wild life and if they dont have an option besides death I have a friend already ready to take the fox because their job is to rehabilitate and relocate wildlife. Thanks to everyone with suggestions tho. I appreciate it.
Also I live close to the city so a fox out here in the open is weird.

I agree 100%. But in the city and burbs here, foxes aren't uncommon.
No hostility on my part.

Ignore the naysayers....you did good.
Let us know what F&WL says.
What state are you in?

I'm in ky. I'm hoping they will help me out about it. And i appreciate everyone who added in a positive or helpful suggestion. I understand we all differ on opinions but complaining about me trapping it or wanting to get it some help is useless at this point because its already done. Im glad the majority of responders on this post was informative though.
