Hello and top of the morning to ya!

I consider myself fairly experienced in the world of chickens, but I do not know much about actual breeds. I am going to write the breeds I have down and I want you to tell me which are heritage and which are not.

Lavender Orpington
Buff Orpington
Silver Laced Wyandotte
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Speckled Sussex
Light Brahma
Welsummer
White Leghorn
Black Australorp
Partridge Plymouth Rocks.

Thank you!

The Buff Orpington is a heritage, but I don't know about the rest. Hope this helped!!
Oh my! I saw this but I thought I had answered and I just realized I did not. Sorry about that! That is definitely helpful. I guess maybe that means the Lavender Orpingtons are too??? Thanks!

Hi,
I think they all are. The Orpington is, but not the Lavender color I think. heritage is defined as any breed that is standard bred and accepted by the APA or ABA up to and including 1952. After 1952, they are not heritage breeds. I believe, double check me on this, that the Lavender color is recent. I do not know if a recent (post 1952) color in a heritage breed DQ's it from being a heritage variety.
Best,
Karen

If I were to guess I would say the Welsummer breed is a heritage breed as well. When you look at when they originated and such.
Ok. Thanks! I love the Welsummer!

Hello! Thank you! That was very helpful and I did not know about the whole post 1952 thing, that makes alot more sense.

So far I really like my Welsummer chicks. They are only a little over 2 months old now. My mom keeps asking me when my cockerel will "start looking like the Cornflakes chicken".
