My suggestion, if anyone is the least bit serious about breeding, is to get a copy of the Standard of Perfection, or at least borrow someone's copy for a while or take it out of the library and photocopy the relevant passages and pictures for your breed. That way, you have an objective reference, and you know exactly what to look for. The pictures alone are priceless in terms of clearing away all nagging doubts or illusions. I like to put a side shot of my birds up against the standard photo to see where they lack, where they need to be improved. It really does help.
