Ok I am back, still trying to catch up on things here after being gone basically 3 days...
I learned ALOT!
My bird was awarded best turkey, and then the award was taken away & given to the Narragansett hen.
WHY??
Cuz I opened my big mouth......
They said he was the best Beltsville they had seen in many many years...............
And I said "he is not a Beltsville, he is a Midget White"
OH>>>>>>>>>>>>bad deal here...With my mouth
They said they could not award him Champion Turkey being a Midget White as this was an APA Show and the champion had to be an APA bird...so they took his award away.
But told me he was gorgeous!
So....I should have kept my mouth shut!!!
They (5 Judges) had no idea he was anything but a Beltsville White & a few actually argued with me about it (and I standing there dumbfounded....ya know how they can make you feel 2 years old?)
A few of the judges actually think I am nuts and that the bird IS a Beltsville, and a perfect specimem of a Beltsville.......with a "spectacular breast & display"
So maybe he is a Beltsville after all?
I gotta study more.
I have heard of alot of issues lately where folks are ordering poults & eggs from Midget White Turkeys that are really Beltsvilles..and some get huge (30+ #) and are really Commercial BB...
Besides the 2 judges asigned to judge, William Wenger & Ramona Trombley,we had 3 there (one clerking, ((Paul)) one is president of the club Brian Decker, and past president & club founder, Larry Urban.
OK so from now on, I have Beltsvilles, not Midget Whites...
How the heck can one be sure???????
P.S. My bird is 18.5 pounds as of a week ago...I think he lost a few oz at the show, he did not touch any feed, he does not like feed, he likes grass.
He was very happy to get home.
