Heritage & Exhibition Turkey Thread

Consultation fee: Donate a pair or trio of exhibition turkeys to a 4H member.

Anyone can join 4H. Just those over 18 must compete a volunteer application.

As for showing at a fair. Just search the web for your county, district or state fair. Then contact their office to get entry information. Its actually fairly simple.

what is a voluntiar application??

11:45 at night, in a dark bedroom trying to keep from waking the wife....its get a bit difficult to see wrongly spelled words. I usually use spell check.

To complete a volunteer form just search for your state's cooperative extension service office. They can direct you to your county 4H office. The county cooperative extension office will give you the volunteer form to complete.

Javagirl, what I have done is waited (or ask someone, anyone in your area) when the Fair is, usually August & September.
So right about June, the fair posters are put up all over town, and the Fair catalogs are available at groceries & hardware stores (this is a rural county)
When I know Fair is coming up I watch for the catalogs, read everything & start organizing what I want to enter(paintings, sewing, vegies, canning & poultry)
Then start by making a note on your calendar when you must send in your entry forms. There will be a cut off date, so enter early.
Then start prepping the birds...get them out of muddy areas & feed them well to get them in good condition.
It is recommended to remove hens & pullets from Cock birds so their backs are not all muddy...some folks keep them in 2x4 pens (for chickens) and 4x4 pens for turkeys to get them 'used' to a small pen.
Pamper them, baby them, handle them so they are used to people.
And have a good time!
