Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Smooth Collie from a working strain. Mine is retired now, more strains exist.
http://bellwethercollies.webs.com/ There is a picture page. I don't think lack of a tipped is an important fault. It is much more important to have the ears move easily and with good rotation on the skull. The tip of the ear is for fancy only and does not help catch the dog do a better job of catching sound.
From our 2002 litter, ~~ "James" (UCD, UAG1 Bellwether Let Your Light So Shine, HIC, CGC, TDI, RE, TT, CDX, OFA excellent), owned and trained by Toni Bailey of Talequah, OK became the only collie in the breed to attain both Heel to Music and Canine Freestyle Dance championships at 11 yrs. old.

No. The retail for this is less than 30.00 The APA SOP sells for 59.00 everywhere. The price is fixed. This is a Hard Press edition. I believe this is a reprinting company. And this edition is a reprint of one of the early SOP's, probably pre 1920. There are several companies out there reprinting the old editions of the APA SOP. They are ignorant that the APA has never let the copyright lapse on the SOP and these republishers are in violation of copyright law. Now AKC let their copyright lapse and all editions of the AKC Stud Book pre 1962 are in the public domain. But the APA SOP? No way.
Best,
Karen

If cost is prohibited (as in my case ha) go to google/books and search for it. Download the old one for free. It hasn't changed a lot. Later I'll get the new one.

Sharing some pictures of the oldest batch of chicks. Between 6-7 weeks of age. Buff Leghorns and of course the one Blue Langshan (btw in the last picture that bottle is 12" tall, for a sense of scale)

Nice, I'm liking these Buffs more and more. I really love the masculine and feminine looks of those head shots too. Says a lot too me. I'm like George on the Langshans not too up to par on them but I figure you are doing them well with the knowledge of the fancy and standards you have in the old memory banks.

It depends on what breed you need and what year they are using. There are differences in some of the breeds.... .things have changed since 1920. There have been important changes since the 1980's. Most of the American breeds are pretty much the same. The APA rule of judges required to have the latest edition of the SOP is in place for a reason. The APA Standard Revision Committee is curently working on even more changes.

At some point when I start evaluating my chicks I'm going to need help. I would be nice to have a mentor close by, but I don't know if that is possible. I'm certainly not going to find some one well versed in the ins and outs of breeding Dorkings! They seem to be few and far between.

Hi Jennifer,

Where are you located? Maybe I can think of someone who can be of aid. Even if there is no one close by, you can get some help online and with email.

I raise Silvers. Fowlman on here has been so helpful with answering my never ending questions. He raised Dorkings a while back and probably has the most overall knowledge of breeding fowl of all.

Other sources of advice, in addition to Yellow House Farm:
Phil Bartz, long time breeder of Dorkings [email protected]
Craig Russell 570 837-3157
Dick Horstman
Duane Urch

Not an old timer, but a breeder who has been working hard with her birds and having good results at shows this year: Liz Munro in Alberta. Contact her and the following breeders through Dorking Breeder's Club http://dorkingbreedersclub.webs.com/
A couple more, newer breeders who are serious about breeding Dorkings to Standard:
Mary @ Roseland Haven Farm FL
Kimberley @ Kelley Creek Farms AL

I'm sorry about your predator problem. Best wishes.
Kim
