Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I would think that a stir container like they ship frozen steaks etc in with a cold pack might work if it can get there in two days with USPO.
I have done reverse in cold weather with heat wraps. I see those stir shipping containers in the thrift type stores all the time. Just a thought.

I must have three dozen of those styrofoam containers stacked in the loft of a shed; small, medium and some quite large. I saved them, thinking they would be of some use and I guess they still might.

I can't understand such expense for shipping eggs. Something seems wrong here.

EDIT: If they can ship 25 live chicks for about 20 bucks, a dozen eggs plus container and chill-packs should go for roughly the same price or less.

I think she was talking about overnite Fedex air or UPS not the USPO - I don't think the PO guarantees overnite anymore But not sure.
I have used those for egg shipments several times - but as disclaimer I am not a large scale operation - just occasional.
They really keep a average temperature over a two day period with a little help.

Hi,
It was FEDEX express overnight and USPS express overnight. I am thinking of asking them for rates
on "chilled semen" and see what falls out of the tree.
Best,
Karen

Has anyone tried shipping eggs and chicks together in a chick container? The PO does seem to take extra care of the chicks. Last time I picked up chicks they were set carefully on a table and they called me early to come get them, while I was there I say a guy sorting packages using the "alley oop" method (and underhand toss high in the air that landed in the trolley he wanted to put it in). I didn't see if it was marked fragile or anything, but I figure the boxes all get treated the same - as a source of entertainment for bored postal employees.

I got a shipment of eggs once that was marked "Honey". They hatched about 50%, a lot better than others I've gotten. I wonder if that makes the postal employees worried about cleaning up a messy spill if they break the contents? I know I wouldn't want to clean up an area that had a box leaking honey pass through.

I shipped some marked "fine china" one time. Tho the recipient never contacted me to say how many hatched.
Best,
Karen

Well I am closing my breeding pens for the year. It's been a frustrating time trying to get eggs to ronotti and having 2 other folk back out on me. I get really irked when folk just back out on me . ( Not you ronotti). I mean I take my birds breeding seriously and it makes me upset when folk just treat them like hatchery birds. Maybe next year will be better. At least Farmer Karl got 11 nice birds. A stunning stud cock, hens, and cockerels.
Best,
Karen
