Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

This is why it makes me physically ill to see people talk about and raise all this imported and non-recognized junk. There are real breeds with real histories that need work and preservation. But instead people choose to jump on bandwagons or cross stuff to make mixed breed mutts (err I mean "Projects"). Oh well, the real poultrymen will keep alive the true breeds as much as we can, and let people continue to ruin the poultry world as a whole.

I hope some people really take your words to heart, maybe it's not too late to save some of these breeds.
Few people are showing Light Sussex. They are such a neat breed.
Do it all. Pretty on an eWh base. True dual purpose, being excellent
roasters and superior winter layers. Hatch in Jan. Feb. and March.
Spend the summer watching your lovely birds grow out. Clean legged
with easy color balancing. Rich literary history in English. friendly
parent club with sharing membership.
Best,
Karen

Oh I just thought of something else that works amazing for transporting! Produce Boxes. If you talk to the store managers sometimes you can get a ton of them free and they work really well for small large fowl, or with cardboard dividers for bantams.
J.B. Mc Bee used waxed produce boxes exclusively to transport his almost unbeatable Black Rosecombs for years. He'd keep swapping birds out from them too until just before the judges got there. Then the really super ones came out.It really wouldn't have mattered, as Wilbur Stauffer told me that his lesser birds were still better than anyone else's.

I'm aiming at going to Newnan too. I think Jim Sallee will be judging .Let's hope we escape the usual Valentine's ICE this year ! That's our usual weekend for bad ice here.
Last year we didn't have the ice/snow.....but it was durn cold. I was in a heavy winter carhartt coat, hot hands in every pocket and I was still freezing. Worst part was the wind....and being a bit "folliclly impaired" made for a quite chilly day

I did get to meet Wynette Adamson and Bob Blosl (rest his soul) there last year and it was quite fun. First "big" show I'd ever been to.

Sold mine to a 4-H girl down the street. Still regret it.

You cannot beat them. Some folks were coming by for some Juveniles last summer and I happened to have a few of those. Not fancy, but harder to come by as stores are breaking down and baling everything these days.

Holy heck, Friday was gorgeous! Saturday was 180 degree change. Yeeps! I'm so glad I was able to finally meet Bob in person after e-mailing and PMing here for a few years. Sigh. OH - and of course, it was most awesome to meet you, Scott! :)
