Hum,
Well, no one wants these extra Sussex pullets I have for 19. each.
I wish I hadn't been so  rushed going to Columbus. I could have sold
them there. Oh well. I posted them on  the PA unite thread for 15. each.
Maybe someone will be interested.  Some of them started laying this
month. But there are only two of us here and I don't need 11 hens here.
I don't see how  ya'll get  buyers for your birds, no one around here
wants to buy mine. Been advertising them for over a month. Well, if I
can't get buyers, I will just cull them. They are good pet quality, not
breeders because of their cushions. . That's what  happens when a novice
holds on to the birds too long. I won't make that mistake next year.  I
will cull at 18 weeks and cull all the boys except the outcross ones at hatch.
Nice thing about being able to feather sex this strain.  Good thing is, I have
been able to watch this strain develop and learned more about them. So I
guess that's worth while.
 Best,
 Karen
No, I won't give them away. I learned in the flea market trade that kind of
kindness gets one a reputation where everyone expects a discount, even
when the merchandise doesn't require one. Takes time to fix one's rep back
to "don't expect a discount every time" status.  Just not worth it.

Karen
Try posting them on pennswoods classifieds.
I would take them in a heart beat but my DBF would kill me. I seen when you first posted them for sale. I live in the same general area as you and it seems to me everyone has a back yard flock.

Jeff,
Congrats on both of those gifts! I would not mind getting either or both, myself. Love Percherons. It's costlier to have them trimmed/shod ...but they are so nice to be around...ride and drive fine too...gentle giants. Most Percherons are black but I have seen an occasional grey. Make sure your fencing is solid...you'd be surpised what they can do with just leaning and rubbing...I've had a 'warped' fence or 2

Yeah I'm pretty good at keeping the feet good probly wont have to shoe him unless he has soft feet he will be on grassy pastures mostly and no rocks at all here yeah it will be an experience for sure much more horse than I ever dealt with LOL it will be fun having him yes he is blackern' a lump of coal too. I have ample space for him to roam an graze may have to get him a whether goat for a buddy/ company. Goats and horses compliment one another/co-habitate well. What the horse don't like the goat does and vice versa.

The incubator is a nice gesture for sure(appriciated one) but oh my oh my the temptation(s) and the numbers would surely bury me in an early grave, me ah!

Will have to sign up for hatchers anonymous for sure(seek help) I'm an addict at everything unfortunately

Silver spangled Hamburgs!!!!also white midget turkeys
Apdeb, I was not at this show but I'm going to hazard a guess... Bridgette Riddle? My other computer died so I don't have her contact info. GJensen has it. You can ask her if they were hers.

Interesting! I'll have to ask my vet about these the next time I'm in. Thanks for mentioning, Zanna!
I believe you can pick these up at pet supply stores, not just veterinary offices.

We are having one of those 180 degree changes right now. 65 here this afternoon. Now 38 with a gusting wind up to 40 MPH, with ice pellets and snow. Just went up,and shut all the coop doors.28 by morning and 26 tomorrow night.Funny boy Buffs are cuddled up in the back of their sleeping boxes with their warm girls. They never poked their heads out, but the girls issued a complaint about the weather change.Love my double walled sleeping boxes. Everybody will stay toasty.

I would SOooooo LOVE to see pictures of this, if you wouldn't mind?

Wil is definitely a good source. He has some very nice birds. And as YHF pointed out the Poultry Congress is in the heart of Langshan land, I'm envious of you folks out that way! I think Mike House is out your way too (Edit: I was wrong, Mike is in NC) and he would be a great person to contact as well. Harvey Noel is out there too I think and just won BB at the Ohio National with a pullet that made me drool.

DEFINITELY drool worthy! My goodness!

I've been having quite a time here with the sudden cold we got! Ugh! Very few of my birds were ready for it.

I've also committed my very first mercy killing tonight. My largest male (8.5 pounds) was struggling with the cold yesterday morning when it wasn't really very cold. The coming winter will see temperatures probably 40-50 degrees colder. I watched him shivering and looking pathetic for about 15 minutes before I talked myself into it. I think his dressed weight was 5.5#. I comfort myself with the fact that I have several of his offspring still coming up from last year that I am very pleased with. His daughters that I wanted to cross back to him this spring will have to be crossed with another large male that I have. I don't know how much that one weighs but he's big... trying to keep my size up.

Have any of you ever had birds drop tail feathers when they reached the 5 month marker? I had several do it this year and I'm just perplexed over the whole thing.

Well, I hope I can keep current on reading this thread as it is one of the things I enjoy most about getting online.

Up for discussion...

I would really like a Woods style chicken coop but I don't think it would be feasible for my situation. This is what I have come up with... if I'm ever able to get my custom coops built. Speaking of custom, if there's something I have not thought of (outside of the basic necessities) please chime in. Dragon Lady, would one of your double walled nesting boxes work with this situation? I'm thinking I would put it up high as my birds are constantly looking at the roof of my current "barn" and wondering if they can get any higher. If I could make a cozy place for them to sleep and still have lots of ventilation without risking frost bite, that's what I will do.

First up: The western exposure. We get lots of wind here coming from every direction except east and yet occasionally, it comes from the east too. So, ventilation at the floor level on the west side.

Each of the windows in the building will have covers available.

Next up: Eastern exposure. We only get 5 inches of precipitation here per year so having the roof open this way will not present any moisture issues. It dries quickly when it does rain/snow.

I plan to have a deep litter set up so the air coming in would sweep over the litter, keeping it dry and go up and out the roof vent on the eastern side. This should provide a warm pocket at the top of the western wall, especially if I can put some kind of box for them to snuggle together up there. Of course that would mean building ramps as a means to get way up there. Not a problem.

Anybody have any comments? suggestions? I'm all ears.

Gosh a good Langshan is a lovely thing, and I have to admit, I like them best in black.

LOL that's how I feel when I see them. I would get them but someone in my area has them and I like to be different and no one has Brahmas( atleast not anything worth looking at ). Plus when I get my LF white Cochins in a few months then I'll have something else on people around here. They all raise bantam cochins.
