Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Really seconding the Mediterranean breeds suggestion that Daniel made. Leghorn, Minorca, Ancona, Andalusian, Spanish, Buttercup, Catalana.
Wouldn't it be great to have someone be really successful with Buttercups? Those darned combs are so tough anywhere there's fear of frostbite, but south FL would be excellent for them.

Laura.....gotta tell you a funny

From the first time I saw your avatar, and tag line......I thought you were the "wife of an ENT"....as in a wife of an EAR, NOSE and THROAT specialist.....been meaning to tell you that

Happy Friday

Ok, all sides basically the same except wherever I decide to put doors.

Note: all openings will have hardware cloth encased or heavier 1 x 2 welded wire. I cannot hope to keep mice out but I will only feed outside the building unless weather is inclement and even then, all feed will be cleaned up or tightly covered at night so as not to encourage the rodents.

I love this design! I'm a firm believer that one can never have too much light or too much air when raising livestock....sunlight and fresh air can rid buildings of a lot of the wrong kind of germs.

She's not?

I know, I know...this color is not in the SOP but once was.

*White Java male, 11 months*
I didn't weigh this one but his brother weighed 8.5 lbs dressed.

Nice! Hope my Brahma males look that good. They probably won't because I've let them free range a lot instead of heavy graining to save my money for the better birds.

hmmm. Javas are very flavorful especially older birds. I confine them ~2 weeks before processing since they free range.

I will cook him on low in the crock pot with chopped onions, garlic & onion powder and paprika. Breast side down in ~1 cup of water which turns into a nice gravy over rice.

Trick: Cook slow, low and add moisture. Your birds should turn out great.
