By most people's definitions yes. Again when dealing with the definition of "Heritage", you have to take into account if it's being bred to (and meeting!) it's Standards or not. Even within the same breed.

Isn't the Cochin considered a Foundation breed as well as a Heritage breed? I read it was a foundation breed (like the Dorking) because it was used to create a lot of other breeds.

Just a thought. I was out on the Net today and saw the slew of books on Heritage Fowl out there being reprinted. 99% of these books are also available free online. I perfectly understand wanting a physical copy. I love collecting rare and obscure lit. However, if you're just wanting o read on a poultry subject and don't care if the lit is physical or not... I would be glad to find the lit for you online. Over 15 yrs. exper. It really bugs me that folk may think the only way to get this lit into buy something that is readily available for free online.

I always google things first; especially old books. Several places around the web are putting up out of copyright agricultural books

I know that's true of the Langshan, so I'd believe Cochin as well. Although there's some thought that the Langshan may have actually be the originator of the Cochin.

I took a few pictures of the new Barnevelder pair today. Forgive my completely inadequate photography skills. They are just about 4 months of age. I think I mentioned the day I picked them up, the male is quite a bit larger than the female, my brief review of the standard and Piet's photos tell me they have a ways to go, but all the same I like them so far, they are integrating into the layer flock pretty well, although the pullet is still quite skittish. Hopefully she will calm down as she matures.
