But who has blacks like Walt had? I cannot do anything like that now. You know why, but I can hope for the future.
I haven't seen any black Hamburgs like that in the last ten years. There are some blacks out here in California that have done well in some shows but they don't look like those did. I should have kept them. Bridget has most if not all on that list and the quality is very good.

No comments needed on the pictures of the pair of Barnevelders I put up, Piet has already told me not to breed them. Apparently the pullet is probably not even a Barnevelder. No good deed shall go unpunished :)
Well.....that stinks! I believe a stern conversation with the party that sold them to you would not be out of line. Sorry that you did not get what was promised
The pullet appears to be carrying the "partridge" color pattern (I'm not certain what Barnies are supposed to be)....but a very pretty pattern nonetheless

Hi,
I agree with yard o rocks,
Someone needs to issue a refund and an apology wouldn't hurt either. I am sorry this happened you. Hopefully the list will scour poultryland for you and
we can come up with some decent Barnevelders
for you. Someone must know who has them?
Best,
Karen

OMG! Quote worked for once!

Anyway, you can find some pretty nice Barnvelders from Erhard Weis at http://kummerpoultry.com he's one of the guys that got them recognized in the USA to begin with (right here practically in my backyard in Clark County, WA! 1991 APA National!)

That is why I like Bridget. LOL.

I love you guys and gals :)

Ve, thanks for sharing your pics, they are beautiful birds! It is rare to see Blacks. At least, it has been for me. No one in my neck of the woods has nice Leghorns, and that's okay, I will see about contacting Mark Atwood, he has been recommended by several people who have seen my wish for RC Light Browns (honestly, RC any color LH would please me).

As far as the not-Barnevelders, they fell into my lap. I had no intention of getting them, which is why I had no idea what I was looking at - it's been crazy busy at home and at work, and I didn't do my research before picking them up, I was just doing a lady a favor who could not keep a male. I'll let them grow up, whatever they are, and they can stay in the layer flock as long as they integrate and behave, and so far they are. The pullet is afraid of the others but gets a bit more confident every day, and the cockerel seems quite gentle and easy going with the other birds, a bit afraid of me, but he hasn't been here a week yet, so that's okay. They were all out foraging together yesterday, and had no issues. Having looked at several pictures of nice Barnevelders in the last few days, there may be a day I get some - good ones - saving the link to Kummer for sure, thanks for that! Someone suggested they may be Partridge Rocks, so I posted a pic on that thread for opinions, and chuckled when I saw someone else just a week or so ago had the exact same question as mine - birds were sold to them as Barnevelders and they are not. If they are PRs, the pullet seems like a pretty small one, and the cockerel doesn't really look like the right shape to me, but I am a total ignoramus about Rocks as well - have never had them, have never spent significant time studying the shape save when someone here posts another stunning picture of one, but comparing those pics to these birds, unless a lot of changes happen between 4 months and older, and I realize they may, I'm currently not persuaded I have anything but layer flock birds. Either way, it's okay, and I just wanted to thank you all for sympathizing, it makes me feel a lot better, to tell you the truth!

Just wanted to share: my last pair of bantam rose combed Rhode Island Reds have new babies! My son is not the best at keeping eggs collected and this little girl went broody earlier in the year and with winter coming on, he didn't think she would go broody again! Four hatched today and the last 3 are pipped, should be out by morning! They are SO DARN CUTE!

Somebody, I think it was on this thread, was asking for pictures of the rose comb on a female of the breed. I will try to get some in the next day or so and share chickie pictures with y'all too.

Poor babies, I hope they'll be ok. We're having an arctic blast coming in tonight... the highs have been in the high 50s to low 60s and in the teens at night. Tomorrow's high will be 34 and the overnight temps are going to be in the single digits.
