Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

hellbenders..sounds like OKIE land!

3 degrees this morning...with a high of 25 today. Even the water in the hen house was frozen ..under a red heat light!

Chicks were toasty under their hens.

Egg shape on both eggs is acceptable here because one breed lays the rounder egg and the other breed lays the oval. I candle a few of the rounder ones to determine where the air bubble is located before setting.
City kid cousin in law thought I had quit bleaching my eggs when he saw my brown eggs.
Country Folk have a lot in common...no matter what state and for that matter...no matter what COUNTRY.

Here we go again. 26 forecast for here tonight, with 28 MPH winds, AND rain. Hopefully the ice will coat all my pineapple pear tree blooms, and protect some of the buds. After this winter, you had better look at the glass as being half full, or go nuts. At least I know my birds will be snug. I'm not taking my tarps down until the Easter Bunny has come, and gone.
That miserable bunny may have had his tail frozen off!

Bahahahahaha. Yeah right. I believe you. Really

Absolutely NOT a southern state. We still have some of the vestiges of once being part of Virginia, like 'Southern Hospitality' but we separated from that bunch of ingrates because we didn't believe in slavery...put rather simply.

the civil war was fought at harpers ferry VA. john brown was hung in charles town VA.
Well...the Civil War was fought in many states....up and down the East Coast and far into the western states as well.

To my knowledge there is no town or city called Harpers Ferry Virginia but there is a Harpers Ferry West Virginia!

And the same goes for Charles Town ......it is part of the great state of West Virginia as well!

But you are correct...John Brown was hung near Charles Town when it's was still part of Virginia as

WV didn't become a state 'til 1863.

You did good!!!!!

@ Karen and others who's birds suffered frostbite. When the weather promises seriously cold temps., I pre-treat my cocks/cockerels with KenAG Udder Cream (like I did yesterday) and do not have any frostbite problems. Sure, it's a real pain in the butt, especially with so many birds to deal with. And it's easier now with Jason basically doing the work or most of it but a while back...I did it alone.

Keep in mind, these are 'lowly' production birds and not the high-brow show birds that so many have to worry about but I think as highly of these birds as anyone does their SOP cock birds. I do this because it works and and above all else, it's the humane thing to do.
