Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I also went out and finished putting the wire mesh up around the entire top of the breeder coop. There was a gap between the roof and sides of the coop. Part of that was fixed when a possum got in a few years back and killed a dozen seramas in one night. Now it would be absolutely impossible for something to get into that coop. No more mystery animals above the nesting boxes. I may end up putting the automatic door in the goat barn if it works.

All this talk of predators---this morning as I sat eating breakfast at the computer, I saw a fox walk past a window that is low to the ground, so I saw it quite clearly. I couldn't get my shoes on fast enough! Grabbed the pellet gun, and snuck outside, but didn't see it or which way it went. This is the first sighting of a fox I have had, lived here for over 30 years. I know they are around, but they are much shyer here than the coyotes and hard to spot one. I hope this one was just passing through and is not too hungry and wanting to test the security of any of my pens! Several years ago, I had a lot of scat all over the property, much in just one area. I put some fresh dirt down there and wet it down and in the morning had some good prints---it was a grey fox.

We had a fox get some of my chicks a few weeks ago but my dogs got the fox and left it for me in the morning. :) Payback! :)

Good dog

Great pics! My ground is so hard, even when a little damp it's hard to get complete prints

Ok well scratch everything I've been babbling about. I went out there this morning and had a coon trapped in the trap I set last night. Planning on resetting it and trying again tonight in case we have more than one offender.

Good Job!
