he's got me shaking in my boots! NOT NO MORE!

this is what i mould do, thow a sheet or blanket over him. once you do that it should be easy to subdue him, then carry him around without the sheet for an hour, he wont like it, but i think he will understand his place after you do it a few times a week.
it doesnt have to be an hour thats pretty extreeme

or the next time you are feeding them keep an eye on him, when he comes near you give him a swift kick. he should be to eager to attack after that.

Hmmm, that's a new approach that I've never heard of. Sounds reasonable. If I ever have a mean rooster again, I'll try it.

I am doing this with my young roo .. who has been threatened with "freezer camp" ..

I grabbed a big limby stick and carried it out with me when I turned the big guys loose. As soon as a started doing coop chores, he begins running up behind me .. and once up my leg.

I now turn around with my limby stick and we move. We've been around the coop, around the shed, around the trailer, across the yard... I won't say that I've done it for 15 minutes, but when we first start moving, he will scoot forward and then turn to face me in attack mode.. I quit only when he's moving away from me and glancing back like "Is that crazy lady done with me YET" ..

Yesterday was day 4 and I was able to do my chores without my stick. It was always there, and I watched him carefully, but he is rethinking the whole "Let's challenge the humans" thing.

What I have noticed, though, is that he seems to take it out on the hens .. which will also land him in freezer camp. but he's young, so I'll give him time to chill ..

I must be doing something right, Killer is terrified of me. But when he was separated and in the fattening pen he got daily abuse from the other cockerels and if he even thought about flying at me he was snatched up by whatever I could grab and hauled around for a few minutes very indelicately while I was feeding the dogs.... His head was in my dane's mouth at least twice. He was saved from dinner because my girls LOVED him instead of killing him when I tossed him in with them one day. Now he runs from me the second I get in the pen, will not protect anything including himself when I get in there! He's usually tucked in under the feeder while I'm pulling eggs.

My little silkie roo on the other hand gets uppity with me about once a week. It's a pitiful excuse for an attack too and he only does it when I bring out greens. He gets yanked up unceremoniously and gets to view the world upside down for a while as I tend to everything in the morning. Usually gets slobbered on by the bassets.

The main thing is not to be afraid of a freaking bird!!!! If they are that bad you can reach out and grab their necks and snap them when they attack. It's not like they are bigger than you, or can do more damage than you can.

he's done it now! after holding him several SEVERAL times, he continues to attack for no reason. yes once he attacked my husband but my husband stepped out from behind a tree and scared the roo. OK I understand that, but this morning my 2 year old daughter came out of the house looking for me, she went by the coop he was outside and attacked her. I had walked through the shed cause he was being naughty. she just missed seeing me. I feel so bad that I waited this long to send him to freezer camp. he got her with his claws in many different spots. the only reason he didn't continue attacking her is the silkie roo started attacking him. and after a long nap, she is doing good. I took this picture after her nap so she atleast has a little smile. I'm uploading a pic now.

also I'd like to add the grief I'm getting from a family member, they think I shouldn't butcher the roo just train my daughter to carry a big long stick.

Hm, me thinks your loving family member should have their hands tied behind their back, made to kneel down to the size of a two year old, and be attacked by a rooster. Wonder how they would feel then?
You did the right thing. Tough as it is, family is first. Human family that is.
Thank heavens your banty was there to get him off of her.

One spur or toenail to the eye and you have an irreparable injury that you will never forgive yourself for. Kill the rooster if you have small children!

My annoying Rhode Island White Rooster attacks me! What you do is wear thick clothes and gloves and pick him up and hold him and pat him for half an hour. that's what Ive been doing, but he has still been attacking me . My parents dont want to make him into dinner

I've tried that Joey several times, he just don't get the idea, so freezer camp it will be

Do you guys think that the silkie roo was protecting her? or just thought a cock fight sounded fun and started after the big roo?

heres a pic of what he did!

Tamarjh that is an idea! I will suggest it to them. next time they complain about me butchering a mean roo, they'll be told they have to do this first!

Has the family member seen that pic of your baby with the gash under her eye??? If so, may I respectfully suggest that said family member needs to be smacked upside the head with a dead rooster?
