He's or she's?

Look up cornish x or cross. Its a terribly sad meat breed, they get large enough to process in a few short months and get too big to move or forage like a "normal" bird. Id take them back to the store.

:( The 2 big ones already seem to have difficulty breathing. The others see ok. Think they are all Cornish x?

I wondered this myself. It is possible that the white leghorn bin at TSC had a few Cornish Xs thrown in. If you could get better pics it might help.

They were marked as pullets - egg layers. There was another bin labeled as meat, and another, unsexed Bantams.

They look like cornish x. The meaties can live with the layers but they get HUGE and will have trouble walking, will easily overheat, and won't be able to roost. Ours had trouble breathing and really struggled to get around by 8wks. We processed ours at 9wks and at that point they were too large to really function well, it was sad.

See how they do but if they were mine I would return them to the store or give them to someone who wants meat birds.

That's so sad.

The feathers of the larger ones are definitely different. Especially the tail feathers. I don't think I could take them back. We'll just love on them until it's time to process them.

I really wanted chickens for eggs. I guess I'll have to wait for a while to see if the others are meat birds as well.

Maybe, just to be sure, I'll get a few others from a more reliable source. My husband says to wait, but I already want a dozen more. I'm totally hooked.

I think we could process them ourselves. I'm just not sure about watching the stress on the bird.

Do you they are all Cornish x?
