We also share a similar climate. I have been to Saskatchewan and I grow many fruit trees from Saskatchewan. How you look after chickens is greatly influenced by climate. Knowing others in similar regions has great value.

Hi Rangergord! Thanks! Yes it really is a big big job, but worth it once the temps start to drop! I’m in southern SK and temps have now dropped in the -35 windchill range and that insulated coop is sure nice! And HUGE value in knowing others in the area! Do you heat your coop? I do not heat my coop, is well insulated though, I’ve given the ladies heat lamps at -51 and nobody used them! (Tiny touches of comb frost bite) will have to see how my silkies handle the cold though as they are new additions!

Hey hey Nebraska! How’s the weather there? Thanks...I wanted a good size coop...I knew I’d get addicted and NEED the space! Lol and well baby chicks, and broody hens...gets very addictive! Haha

Also the coop was free...was an old grainary on our farm...so that made it an easy decision to utilize the building! I’m big into Reuse of anything old and forgotten!

Oh man...I would take your temps and your thunderstorms! We are severely droughted here! Enjoy, it’s feeling like -35 Celsius here! My ladies won’t venture out after about -15 Celsius!
