Hey 👋🏻 hey 👋🏻 from Saskatchewan Canada!

Hi Rangergord! Thanks! Yes it really is a big big job, but worth it once the temps start to drop! I’m in southern SK and temps have now dropped in the -35 windchill range and that insulated coop is sure nice! And HUGE value in knowing others in the area! Do you heat your coop? I do not heat my coop, is well insulated though, I’ve given the ladies heat lamps at -51 and nobody used them! (Tiny touches of comb frost bite) will have to see how my silkies handle the cold though as they are new additions!
I do not heat my coop. It is insulated though. The walls are fiberglass and the floor and ceiling are covered with straw. It’s working out well. Most important is to keep it dry and free of draft. I have been using a heat lamp during the day below -20C because I have no direct sunlight on the coop. Yesterday the hens made a big nest under the lamp and had a party for a few hours. That really made their day more interesting and they don’t seem to mind huddling on the roost at night in the cold.

Hi, and welcome to BYC! It's so nice to meet you! Please make yourself at home! :)
Thanks! I like your rooster...I have 2 just like him! This is brownie...my kiddos named him! 👍🏻 72958438-0D05-412B-A5CC-14D5CDA46195.jpeg
