Hey all y'all

New member, but long-time mixed flock owner (since 2000), and had chicken experience as a kid in the 70s and 80s.

We live in South Mississippi and have 12 hens and 1 roo in the coop, with excess roos free-ranging (lost a lot of hens to predators last year).
My chooks are mutts out of a buff Brahma & splash Cochin base with a bit of this, that, & the other tossed in over the years. I keep chickens for bug control, meat, eggs, and enjoyment.

Himself & I are retired. We live semi-rural, and also have horses, goats, barn cats, and Muscovies.
My interests are baking, cooking/spices, gardening/botany/horticulture, mushrooms, fermenting, foraging, reading, and I am an avid turophile.

I have been aware of BYC for many years, but was more of an occasional lurker with not much spare time on my hands until more recently.
I am hoping to learn more (especially with regard to breeding my birds), and look forward to participating in some discussions. :)
Welcome to BYC!!

Glad you decided to de-lurk!

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.
