Hi Ma,
Are you right on Lake Superior?You'll sure have a cold winter .I'll bet it's really beautiful up there.Post some pics,we'd love to see them. Glad things are back to normal for you....

Yes, we are right on the Lake. We live on Chequamegon Bay. We can put our snowshoes on right on the back deck and walk out onto the Lake! An interesting fact is that it actually stays a few degress warmer here as the Lake has a warming affect, even when frozen. And the same with snowfall, a little less as the wind picks it up and dumps alot more inland.

But cold none-the-less!!

The coop will have 3 heat lamps and the girls will be fine. Especially huddled under the lights. Six girls in a 5x6 by 6.5 feet high coop. Orpingtons are very cold hardy and reliable. We love this breed due to their wonderful docile nature, not to mention their beautiful brown eggs.

Can you imagine how long this winter will be waiting for our chicks?

But it gives us a much needed rest and recovery period. And we love winter, most people think we are a little strange!
