Hi Sodapop,
What do you have your chicks in? Do you have a light on them for warmth? Also, I've heard you shouldn't put just newspaper in their box because it's bad for their leg development - it's too slick. I put newspaper down and then paper towels on top of that.
My bantam chicks ate start and grow by Purina from day one and did great. With my second group of chicks I bought a different brand of chick starter but I took it back to the store after I got home and read the label. It contained animal by-products and had different nutrient levels than the Purina start and grow. So I went to another feed store and got the Purina brand again.
Good luck and welcome!
Hey Sodapop,
I'm new too! We got our chicks for our boys (ages 3 and 6) and as I post before, those boys LOVE their chickens. We are in the waiting stage for eggs!! None yet. I totally agree with justusnak, I see more in your future. we started with 11, lost 2 so my husband replaced those 2 with 5 !! We have seen some different breeds on this website and now we want more!!! Enjoy all the great info!
Im sorry I disappeared for a bit. I have had a hectic week with my family.
My chicks are in a cage in the house right now...it gets very HOT in the house, I dont think I need a heat light. Yesterday it got up to 84 degrees in here. {I need to call a repair man for my AC i think}
Here is my chickies last week...
i have to throw a picture of Beebop, took a year to get him on this tree
My husbands brother has a bunch of bantys...he said I can have as many chicks as I want...but my husband told me to hold off on the chickens for a while, he heard something on the news about avian bird flue and chickens and turkeys. We need to check into it...I do parrot rescue!!!
