My name is Sarah and I live in Apex, NC. I just got 2 one-week old chicks; a Blue Laced Wyandotte named Maude and an Americauna named Midge.
I have them set up in my bathroom tub right now, with pine-bedding and a feeder and waterer and heat lamp. They're doing really well so far, if I do say so myself.
My partner and I are going to build their coop from scratch from plans that we drew up ourselves. I know it's a little unconventional to have the chicks before the coop, but I just couldn't wait a second longer, and I don't think it'll take us five weeks to build it.
I have two dogs and a cat which have shown PLENTY of interest in the chicks and with some supervised introductions, they're on their way to being friends.
So far, the chicks have developed some unique personalities. Midge is very outgoing and curious, and Maude is sort of introverted. I honestly thought Maude wouldn't make it the first night because she was so quiet and was sort of sleeping on her side with a leg up in the air, but it looks like she's doing much better now.
Anyway, it's nice to meet you all!
