So my husband and I are newly owners of 16 chickens, 8 Rhode Island Reds and 8 Barred Rocks. He has some experience with raising chickens from his childhood but refreshers and new advice are always welcome to us! I'm totally a noob at this so any information will be helpful. Also, my husband leaves a lot throughout the year (military) so I decided to join to get help from others because I can't always be in contact with him. Jeremiah and I pretty much obtained our chickens on a whim. Well, it started as a joke but quickly became reality. I told him I wanted a kitten, he said he'd rather have chickens (he's not a cat person) and next thing I know, I'm being told they'll be at the post office for us to pick up in a week and he's already finished the base for the coop! Again, we're open to any advice, tips, or tricks you have to offer. Thanks in advanced!

Very Respectfully,
The Lager Family

Hi Lager Family, welcome to BYC!

I would recommend the Learning Center, it has tons of useful info. And if you ever have any questions, always feel free to ask.

Thanks for joining us, and best of luck with the new chicks!

Welcome from Middle Georgia. So glad you have joined us.

Good luck with your new flock. Feel free to post questions, we're here to help.

IMO a kitten in the house and chickens in a coop would be perfect.
Maybe you could sneak a kitten in when your DH is absent

And when he returns tell him the cat is really a house chicken?
