Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Happy New Year's friends! I hope you all had wonderful NYE celebrations. What did you all do?

We were still up in the mountains last night and made a nice steak dinner with a side of baked potatoes with all the fixin's and a green salad. Hubby made his yummy 'shrooms on the side.

We had plans to have an early dinner, around 3:00, but the kids were having so much fun at the sledding hill that we didn't get dinner on until closer to 5:30. Our plans were to have appetizers and other dipping things (artery cloggers as Aneesa's Muse so hilariously put it) later in the evening but were too full and passed on that idea. We rang in the New York New Year and went to bed early.

We're back home now. We went out for some authentic Mexican this afternoon. I had a nice bowl of Menudo and nibbled on some of hubby's tamales. If I get hungry later, maybe I'll break into the artery cloggers.

However, if I'm smart, I'll have a salad.

I felt a little better today, so I cleaned and did water changes.. well, I did the marine tank anyway. Poof is happy!

I panko'd some yellow tail steaks after seasoning them with lemon/herb stuff ...fried up some cabbage and noodles ..and fried some leftover rice with fresh carrot, onion, mushroom, petite peas, etc. ...and called it "food".

I'm still longing for some "artery cloggers" ..so that's on the near agenda, along with some cheesecake (got it softening up now

Hope y'all are safe and HAPPY!!

happy new year.

2 roast chickens (one marinated with homemade barbeque sauce, and one with a lemon pepper sauce.) , spagetti squash, roasted potatos and onions, and two apple pies!

Jalapeno rolls and Chili dip were a huge success! Thank you so much for the great ideas.

Tonight is cabbage and noodles again. I can't seem to get enough of it.

How does everyone make their Cabbage 'n Noodles? I see it mentioned enough, I'm sure there are a few different versions amongst us

I do fried cabbage with "chow mein" noodles ..they're fresh, but I cheat and pick them up at the market... with onion, julienned carrot, mushroom (sometimes), garlic, peppers, etc.

I don't know what dinner will be tonight.. but it's grocery week again and I'm off to try and find some permissible artery clogger ingredients (beef sausages and bacon and so on)!

In fact, I better get a move on ...DH has been using my car and he'll need it soon.

I've a pork loin out for tonight, not sure just yet on how it will be prepared... lol
Jim just tells me to put it in a pan and bake it... bake it with what?! lol

Aneesa.. we were only allowed to get 2 of the game hens. The rest of the hens were supposedly adopted out, the roos were put down, and one roo and 2 hens that were pure white, were supposedly sent to a bird sanctuary in NY. Frustrates the tar outta me.

skand.. I'm sorry you couldn't save more of them, but the few you got will be very happy, I'm sure!

Oh.. and if you haven't started your 'loin yet... I always liked to stuff mine (when I still ate pork) with various things. Various herbs, scallions, peppers, shallots, and so on ..not necessarily all of the ones mentioned, but whatever you choose

mmmmm pork loin! I found a great recipe at Allrecipes for pork loin. It was marinated in maple syrup, mustard and a few other thinks them BBQed. Yummy. Let us know what you come up with.

We did end up eating the artery cloggers last night. I especially liked the pita crisps with the hummus.

I'm not cooking tonight like usual for a Friday. Hubby will bring home pizza or something. Not sure yet. I've been working today to get the house back in order and guiding the kids on their homework projects. Plus, we've been playing Guitar Hero.

Hey, I have a question - In my freezer I have a leftover lamb bone with a good amount of meat on it. I was thinking I'd make a soup out of it - perhaps Scotch broth or something similar. Does anyone have a good recipe to share?

okay, somehow or another, I got this pulled togather..lol Baked the pork loin with worchestshire sauce (1 Tbsp), sea salt and pepper for 1 1/2 hours, Mashed potatoes, broccoli with velveeta.
Then, sliced the loin, and stuffed it in between onion buns.... mmmmmmmmmmmm add a lil velveeta inside,..hehehehe

New Years Day we had pork loin, rice, black-eyed peas, corn, brussels sprouts and corney corn bread. I turned the rice and pork loin into fried rice tonight (used 3 eggs). Served with corn on the cob. Which was great since I just got my braces off.
