Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

The girls are under the weather, so they get hot dogs, (I was wanting sloppy jo's but thats a bad idea with sore throats), Jim's getting his BLT's that he's been begging for, and I get leftover pizza!

I am sorry to hear that the girls are not feeling well. I hope they are better soon.

SIL just called and they are picking up Pizza on their way out. Thank goodness I just could not get excited about cooking tonight!

They are bringing their 2 youngest children to us for the weekend. BIL just returned from Iraq and the need some time alone. We get the 10 month old and 2 year old and someone else gets the 5 and 7 year old. I have not had babies in my house in a very long time as my one and only is 14!! This is my favorite nephew because he loves

Gotta love them nephews!!! I told Jim I make a better aunt then a mom, moms have rules, and aunts give chocolate!!
At least with little ones, bedtimes are wayyyy earlier and less argumentative then older ones.

Thats funny that you say that! See this last one, their only girl was not spose to happen! She had a procedure called E-Sure and apparently something went wrong! The DR told her she was the first reported case in which it did not work! So this little girl is truly a miracle. Her DH ran to the DR to het the big V after that!!

I am looking forward to spoiling and sending them home!!

We seem to be on a roll of spaghetti on Fridays around here. I use the pork breakfast sausage that I have TONS of in my sauce. I just sizzle up some fresh garlic (about 5 cloves

) along with some red pepper flakes and a tsp of fennel seed- and voila! Italian sausage!! I served it with some steamed broccoli and rolls. Fresh baked banana bread after.

edited for spelling...

We are having baked apples today, with cream. My mother used to make those for us when we were little. I'm hoping making and smelling them cooking will help me de-stress.

Probably McDonald's for the rest of the meal.

I'm making chicken pizziola per my son's request. It's one of his favorites. Would like to make some fresh bread to go with it, but am still at work so don't know if I will have time.

Ohhhh YUUUUM!!! This takes me back as well. Both of my grandmothers were great cooks. My mom's mom owned a catering business in Hollywood. She was an older mom so by the time I was old enough to remember, she no longer cooked. My mom grew up on leftovers from these parties (caviar, stuffed squab, etc) and never learned to cook herself. I always joke that I learned how to cook out of self defense.

But, my dad's mom was a different story. Although she didn't cook professionally, she authored recipes for cookbooks. When we'd go up to LA to visit them, we usually ate dinner at her house. I recall one meal that was out of this world. Dessert was baked apples with fresh cream. It was one of the most amazing things I ever ate. I now own her files of recipes, so I'll have to dig that one out and see if I can replicate it.

I love the recipes that get handed down. Enjoy!
