Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Disclaimer - Iread this on the internet a couple of years ago, so take it as you will...

The reason McDonalds had such good french fries at the beginning is that they were fried in beef fat. They gradually reduced the amount of beef fat and started using the trans-fat oils with beef flavoring. With their restaurants overseas- India specifically- they had to reformulate the oils to be vegetarian - so no beef for flavoring either. So, if you think the McDonalds French Fries are not the same as they used to be, you are right.

My mom used lard for cooking also. I tried making one of out favorite Saturday Special breakfast recipes - french pancakes (NOT crepes), but without a good lard to fry it in, they jsut weren't as good. Not even worth making. My sister found out the same thing.

Was talking with the Son as we are doing our own breakfast just how we do it I am a bit out of sort this morning think the crab pushed a bit too hard but it was good :gigcan sure feel it this morning ... I make real nice English muffins having that with cheese

It is very hard to change my beliefs on lard too!
My mother used lard for frying chicken and my dad loved it. I thought it was disgusting because it was always undercooked and bloody.
But then again, he's the guy that ate big chunks of raw ham fat.
I've eaten lots of raw meat and fish but even I have my limitations.
I have eaten my organic chicken livers raw with my morning eggs but I have to have my chicken legs and thighs thoroughly cooked, I'm sorry to the memory of my mother but your fried chicken was inedible.
