Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

View My BYC PageHomemade GUMP Bread - best I've found! **New pics added on pg. 5**Here is the bread recipe that you requested miss_jayne! It is very good and very easy to make!

2 cups warm (almost hot) water
4 tsp. yeast
1 Tbsp. sugar
-Combine together and let rise for 5 minutes

1/4 cup oil
5 cups bread flour
2 tsp. salt
-Add to yeast mixture and knead until smooth and elastic. (I use my KitchenAid mixer w/ the dough hook to do this. If you have a mixer with a dough hook, it makes this process MUCH easier!)

I found it! You really have to try this. I modified the directions, not the ingredients so I can use my bread machine to do the mixing. I just copy and pasted this from the original thread. This is the way GumpsGirl posted it. I am so glad she posted it!

Hi everyone.

I haven't been on for a few days. BYC is getting so big now it's kind of losing some of it's small time family feel...if that makes sense...but I still check in on my cooking buddies. I'm sure it's just a phase I'm going through..I just get overwhelmed with all the new posts and get kind of bummed when I post something and nobody answers because it gets lost so quickly.

Anyway, tonight is bbq steak, lemon and herb red potatoes, fruit salad and whatever I can find for dessert.

Hope you all are doing well.

tonight was one of my "end of the month what am I going to make" concoctions. Kind of a taco - rice burrito. Fried ground beef, found I didnt have rice but I did have a bag of cheezy broccoli rice, added taco seasoning and some corn. Added cheddar cheese when it was done, put it in a tortilla with some sour cream. TAA DAA!

I see we have some new friends at the table, welcome one and all!

charmed one - no, I've never tried wild asparagus, but it sounds interesting. Is it similar to the store bought kind or different?

Blue Skys - Welcome out of lurkdom! Glad you decided to stop standing at the window and join us at the table.

Redfeathers - I know what you mean about the size and all. That's part of what I love about this thread. It's our own little community within a community. There are other supper threads on this site, but this one has a long history. Though the faces and names have changed over time, some of us oldies still stop by to say hello. There's a certain comfort in that, much in the same way that we love trying new foods yet still enjoy the old comfort foods too.

Speaking of which - Dinner was homemade Mac & Cheese with ham and peas, salad, and French bread.

Wild asparagus is wonderful!! We used to take walks along the highway and pick it in the spring. It was everywhere!!

Tonight I am making a Thai venison stir fry with broccoli slaw, sprouts, cilantro and scallions. Yum.
