Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

I found out what SO is making for dinner. It's Hamburger Helper! Oh boy, aren't I lucky, with corn for vegetables. Good thing I made my salad, coz I really don't care for Hamburger Helper, tastes too salty and artificial to me, but he likes it, oh well. When I cook, I make foods that I like and he doesn't care for sometimes as well.
It's a comfort food for him.

I'll just put plenty of beans and cheese in my salad.

So sorry FarmerDenise! I'm not a fan, either. But, I am a fan of good comfort food every once in a while. I'm sure that it probably reminds him of some good times. Just as long as he doesn't need to remember tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day . . . . Heck, you're in Sonoma. Just get out a good bottle of wine and maybe you won't notice.

I don't recall what the dinner plans were yesterday, but we had Adobo (used chicken thighs) with rice and green beans

I have some chicken breast out, now ...so I'm thinking a Thai green curry with fresh basil, peppers, egg plant ..all that .......of course, steamed rice .....and I dunno.. perhaps some fat noodles with a dark, simple sauce and some more chicken.. I'm hungry just typing that..

Sorry I've been sort of MIA... but the Spring has sprung and I am outside quite a bit... planting and hanging out with my "reptile kids" in the warm sunshine... uhh.... when it shows itself, that is!

The other night, I brought Joob (Cherry Head Redfoot Tortoise) inside after some play time in her outside enclosure ..got her some refreshments ..cactus pad, chopped up ..and a fresh bowl of water......... left her to her goodies and went to share some with the other reptilian children here. When I returned to the kitchen to see what Joob was up to ..it was eery quiet in there... and you know what that means.. LOL

I found her helping herself to the big juicy red papaya that I had sitting on the floor! LMBO ...just pluggin' away at it ..havin' her fill!

Oh that is so funny, Aneesa's Muse!!!

Your dinner sounds yummy.

I made breaded tilapia with homemade tartar sauce and sauteed Swiss chard and a nice glass of chardonnay. I love Thursdays. That means it's almost FRIDAY!!!

One of last years last cornish cross ( husband will no longer eat store bought chicken) boiled new potatoes with butter, corn on the cob and steamed asparagus.

Still trying to tame the wild brick "beast" (oven) in the backyard. It's like learning to cook all over again.

With initial oven temps of around 700 degrees, I'm trying to plan well to make the most of the firing.

Tonight 's efforts were ...

Pita bread (for gyros made with the leftover lamb)

French baguettes (baked in 12 minutes!)

Brownies, shortcake biscuits and a chocolate chip bar cookie (things in pans seem to have dark bottoms ...

, Needs some work.)

A roasted garlicky leg of lamb with roasted potatoes. Perfection! Served with the baguettes, steamed baby peas and carrot thinnings from the garden, and a mint sauce with the garden mint. Strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream for dessert.

Since a regular oven thermometer won't work, I have to rely on the arm test and thrown flour test ... primitive ... until I master the "beast".

Both BB and Aneesa are right. This is a friendly and helpful thread with a long history. Which is why I posted tonight. It needs to continue.

Redfeathers - please check in often, you and your menus are missed.

Hi

I'm here. I haven't been on much, but thought I'd see how all my culinary friends are doing.

I didn't make anything special for dinner tonight. I was craving pancakes, so I made some... my hubby baked some red potatoes in the oven with an egg mixture and topped it with pepper jack cheese...it was very good...now I'm stuffed, but would love to have something chocolate...I might have to run to the store for some ice cream.
