Actually, Yogiman, I am going to drop by your house for meals this week.

Hey, that's fine. Come on down and see how us poe folks live. Would you believe I just got these computers up and running? We got a good spanking from some severe thunderstorms last night. Power was out for some 5 hours. Computers don't like that. They get stupid then.
Hurrying to get dinner. Got all my veggies cooked on the stove. Got to make my dumplings and add to the chicken. Then gotta make my cornbread.
Maple syrup and cinnamon? You're kidding me, right? Are we making cornbread or cake? That ain't cornbread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, today's Sunday dinner menu:
Chicken and dumplings
Home grown greens and potatoes
Buttered baby carrots
Buttered corn
Real cornbread ( no syrup, sugar, cinnamon, or white (pale) cornmeal)
Iced Tea and milk

Now that's comfort food and preacher food! Gotta make dumplings now.

Yogiman, how do you make your dumplings? I haven't found one that I really like yet, most of them turn out too dense. Do you roll them out or drop them from a spoon?

I love a good chicken and dumplings on a cold night.

When I don't have time to roll out dumplings I cheat.

Anne's Dumplings are as close to homemade as you can yet. Rolled out thin strips of dough exactly like my grandma made them. I watched her hour after hour roll and cut dough for big pots of chicken and dumplings. These are almost as good as her's.

Try 'em.

I have been at church this morning so my dinner plans are late.

I have steak for the grill.
Shrimp for the fryer
baked potaotes
green spinach salad with feta and pecans

Something for dessert, maybe ice cream, I'll let the kids choose, I have pie and a bit of cake left from the week they need to finish, too.

Thanks Miss Prissy. I haven't seen those before but will keep an eye out for them. I looked on the web site but didn't see the ingredients list, could you tell me what they have in them? My mom always made the kind you drop from a spoon, but my mother in law uses frozen biscuits, which aren't bad in a pinch, but not what I am really looking for.

Tonight we are having curried sweet potatoe, leftover fried rice, and leftover chicken teriyaki that I am mixing with a peanut sauce for a different taste.

I love those Anne's noodles, they are perfect for chicken and pastry. Tonight I chopped up a cabbage and sliced a hillshire farms smoked sausage and cooked them otgether in a pan with sesame/ginger stir fry sauce and alittle soy...not to shabby!!!

Here's the finished product for today's dinner. My dumplings were a little tough in texture. I think I over worked the dough as my grandma used to say.
In case you're wondering; this is the wifeeeees' plate!

The finished pone of cornbread with no syrup, sugar, or cinnamon. This ain't Jiffy Mix either.

What's wrong with Jiffy Corn Bread Mix?

Well, for an old coot like me,

it ain't real cornbread. Tastes more like some kind of cake or cookie. lol But by now you will probably guess that I am old school. I'm not a chef, I'm just a cook. A chef wears a white coat and in some cases a white hat. I wear overalls and a blue chambry shirt, no hat in the house.

To celebrate the start-up of egg production again, we had Quiche Lorraine for our Sunday brunch; also mixed fruit, fried potatoes. (salad for supper, couldn't stomach anymore after all that!) First time I made Quiche Lorraine, came out perfect, family ate it ALL!

Didn't have to cook today, we tried a new restaurant.

Which was pretty good, except I got one of those wine taster menu things, where they bring you several wines, and I think they substituted something else for one wine and hoped I wouldn't notice. I had mushroom crostini, risotto, roasted eggplant, and peach sorbet for dessert. And a lot of wine *hic*.
