I use ground venison, fry it in olive oil, toss in some diced onion, dill weed, salt, pepper, add cooked rice, then stuff. Place in electric skillet, cover with chicken broth. Simmer in electric skillet at 350 for about an hour.

The Parsons wife is serving up:
Pinto beans
cornbread
fried taters
corn on the cob (some of my last)
fried okra (last bag)
sweet iced tea
& cornflake delights for dessert

Now that right there is what we call "good ole down home cooking". Man, that sounds some kind of good. I sitting here drooling (slobering like a suckling calf) all over my new key board. That is "comfort food" big time!

Ugh, makes me wish I was a neighbor and you could set another plate at the table.

Would be glad of the company! You could have joined in our little family softball game!

What a let down for supper tonight after having read Parsonswife's menu. I had:
Fried chicken strips
White milk gravy
Fried taters
Rolls
Tossed salad
Cold sweet milk

It was all good and filling but nothing to compare to the beans and cornbread.

Hey Parsonswife:
Do ya'll still have them all day dinners and singing on the ground up there? Ugh, wait, that ain't right is it? I meant, oh heck, you know what I meant.

Yes, Yogiman....I did know what you meant...and yes, we do!
They had one for Easter (I wasn't there, my son was in the hospital)

We are getting ready to have another...getting ready for our spring revival.
There's lots of cooking going on during revivals! Good meals served up for the evangelist everyday! Plus the all day singing and dinner on the ground!

Yeah, that's it. But somehow I think I like the other way better. Down here us country folk would say: All day sanging ( not singing ) and dinner on the ground. Oh what days those were back then. And the chicken and dumplings were to kill for. But then that blackberry cobbler and mawmaw's blackberry dumplings was something else.
And, Oh Yeah, we had them Saturday night sangings every Saturday night that sometimes lasted till daylight. You talk about some hand clapping, foot stomping good times.

My DD cooked redbeans and rice with cornbread. While doing the cooking she cleaned the kitchen.
She also helped me out with the animals so I had time to clean the livingroom while she cooked and cleaned the kitchen. Ummmmm Full Stomach and clean house. I will sleep good tonight.

Red beans and cornbread that sound so good

It was very warm here today and we wanted some cool food. So it was...

Tilapia fish breaded deep fried with fresh squeezed lemon ,and a salad from the greenhouse

Beans and cornbread would have made the meal, but just got to hot today. we had 83 today and 31 overnight.

Anybody else plan what they eat by the temperature outside?

Like I said, Mawmaw made them and mawmaw didn't have no recipes. It was always a pinch of this, a smidgen of that, a dallop of the other, and so forth and so on. My only involvement in them was to eat as many of them as I possibly hold.

But if I gambled, which I don't, I'd bet a new pair of overalls that Parsonswife or mabey 2dream can come up with a "how to" in a New York minute. The best I can tell you is that Mawmaw would cook her berries down with sugar and water and then she rolled out some scratch dumplings and dropped them in the berries until they were cooked. And they are some kind of good. Now add a big scoop of home made icecream on them and look out!

Wait a minute. Hold everthing! Did you say 5 acres of blackberries? For real? It outta be against the law for any one person to have that many dang blackberries. Down here you would have to guard them day and night with a shotgun and I don't mean because of the mocking birds either.

I have a blackberry cobbler recipe I use....uhmmm wish I could have some of the blackberries...been planning on planting some around the perimeter of the parsonage....but things just don't grow well ...I believe I'm still gonna try.
Give me a minute and I will go hunt it up. I have a chicken and dumpling recipe...but not a blackberry dumpling..
