Oh, no! I've been there with the back, and sympathize so much! Darn, that's terrible any time, but worse when there's no one there! ((Hug!))

At least you had a nice dinner; I like burritos.

I am really sorry to hear about dh's grandmother, and am praying for her.

As for you, young lady, be careful with that large furniture stuff. Don't make me come down there.....unless of course you have an idea of somewhere great for us to go and have dinner....

I hope it feels better soon!

Well, we're already up and back at the coops etc., and I'm not going to have any more cooking time today than I did yesterday.

I decided that Aneesasmuse's burrito sounded good, so I'm going to put meat, peppers, onions etc. into the pressure cooker later on.

I'll serve the meat, a quick "Spanish" rice, and tortillas, and put out a few condiments. I know that both dh and ds like sour cream on their burritos, for example. I also have fresh and cooked salsas already made etc.

Chocolate pie with meringue for dessert.

It took me 30 minutes to get out of bed today ..I hope strolling around the kitchen is going to be easier

If all else fails, I can eat pasta 'til he comes back ..I definitely made enough sauce to last a week or so

Honestly, I think it's better that DH isn't here...

We are bbq'ing tonight. Sausage dogs, hamburgers, grilled corn on the cob, grilled zucchini that has been marinating all day, grilled peppers, Cranberry fluff salad, deviled eggs, cherry/blueberry dump cake and vanilla ice cream. Iced green tea.

We have friends coming over. It's a pleasant day, a little humid but not hot with some nice cloud cover. Perfect.

I finally came home on Sat. My dad passed away yesterday afternoon. I made spaghetti and italian sausage last night. Didn't feel like it but have been eating cafateria food and other junk for over a week . Don't know what I'll fix tonight. Chili cheese dogs on homemade buns(I made some before I left) sounds good but I don't have any tomato anything for the chili. I guess I'll keep thinking.

cknmom - So sorry about your dad.

You folks have been busy cooking and eating while I was a way. Chickens, rabbits, garden and family have kept me way to busy. I spent the day yesterday making Spaghetti sauce for canning. Turned out great but took most of the day. What time was not spent with canning was spent picking and shelling peas for the freezer.

After all that time spent over the stove dinner was boxed jambalaya with sausage and a salad.

Does anyone out there know anything about frying squash or pumpkin blosoms? At what point do you pick the blosom? Do you batter? Any info at all?

cknmom.. I am so very sorry to hear about your Dad. I'll say a prayer for you and your family, and if there's anything I can do ..listen, talk, lend a shoulder, whatever ...just holler.

I made Lasagna with my leftover marinara sauce ...so I'll be a "lasagna head" for awhile, I think!

2dream.. I have never tried frying the "blooms", but I would be interested in how it's done, as well. It seems like Tempura/Panko would be the way to go..

Jambalaya sure sounds good ..I just can't handle the msg and other preservatives in a box version. Anyone have a good recipe? I've tried a couple I found online, but they weren't great

cknmom I'm so sorry for your loss; sending loving prayers to you and your family. :aww

2dream I've never done them myself, but am planning on trying it this year - even planted extra squash so I would have plenty. Unfortunately, the earwigs ate most of them, so who knows. I have, however, eaten them and all I can say is YUM! The ones I had were stuffed with goat cheese and herbs, and I believe they used a tempura-type batter. Use the open blossoms, and if you stuff them, twist the ends before battering, then fry until golden brown. Okay, now my mouth is watering!

Tonight's dinner is Hoisen Lamb over rice and charred green beans with garlic and red pepper. Dropped off DS at camp in San Francisco yesterday (Rock Music Camp!), so it's going to be weird cooking for just the two of us this week. As I was putting together my weekly menu, DS kept saying - No, you can't have that while I'm gone. I think he thought that while he was gone we would only eat tofu, fish and zucchini, about the only things he doesn't like

Boy is he delusional!

cknmom, so sorry for your loss, you and yours are in our prayers.

Wow, you all have been eating so well I'm embarassed to post tonight's dinner. I've been trying to clean out the upright freezer and make room for this years harvest, so it was (sheepish) chili cheese fries. Not exactly healthy and well balanced but sure was good!

2dream, I use zucchini blossoms that have just opened fully, fill with an herbed cream or goat cheese mix (we like chives), close petals well, coat in a tempura batter and fry in hot oil until golden and cheese is warm. They can be a little tricky to work with but well worth the effort. Yuummm!
