debiraymond, just a suggestion...

Marinate that beef in Italian dressing for 24 hrs, skewer beef, green bell peppers and onions on skewers and grill. Serve with rice pilaf or grilled planked potatoes and a tossed green salad and fresh bread.

You may not miss that steak quite so much!

hiddenmagnolia - I am not that far from you and you are welcome to come on over here and I will grill you a steak. I remember those MREs from Katrina and I hate those things. When you come, then swing by and throw Roger in the truck/car with you....lol He shouldn't be that hard to throw right now, he is having back problems, been laying on a heating pad for a couple of days now.

Glad to see you online again.

Dorothy

That sounds so good. What I usually do is take some flour, seasoned sale and stew seasoning and swirl the meat in it, the add 2 cups of beef broth from cubes, cut up celery leaves, potatoes and carrots and throw it all in the crock pot for about 8 hours. THE BEST STEW. Oh yeah, I add some red cooking wine to it too.

hiddenmagnolia, I know they are nutricious (sp?), but how do they taste? Just curious, since that's what our troops rely on.

I'm sorry you have to rely on mre's. I pray that some sort of normalcy returns to you and all those hit by Ike real soon.

Here in Ohio, we, hope to have all power restored by Monday, we got hit pretty hard by Ike way up here!. DH said he saw power crews from Canada here trying to help, since we sent most of our crews south to help out.

We tried a few of those MRE's earlier in the week. We helped out at a large animal (mainly show animals 4-H and FFA students) shelter for Walker County and they supplied the workers with those since there was no elec or water after Ike. They weren't that bad and I was surprised by the selection. I wouldn't want to eat them all the time, but under the circumstances I was thankful.

And thanks to those of you in other states that have been sharing your electrical crews with us....I saw a convoy of Michigan crews in Huntsville Monday...and others, just couldn't catch the liscense fast enough.

Thank you for the birthday wishes! Hubby BBQd whn he got home, even though he had worked 16 hours! Tonight is Tangy Tamalie Casserole. It is a new recipe I found. I will let you know how it turns out!

I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. My neighborhood was fortunate enough not to have lost power, while there are areas 10 miles away that are slowly being returned to the grid. I think as of this morning it was about 95% restored.

I made pizzas tonight. Cheese, paper thin slices of garden tomatoes and fresh basil drizzled with a little olive oil.

I made lasagna for a baby shower today, so I made an extra for home. And then made DH a plate of potato salad and meatballs and cake for desert and brought it home so I didn't have to cook tonight.

I don't know what is for dinner tomorrow waiting to see if DH gets a call to go on storm, nephews and cousins in Ohio, Louisiana and Texas hope they turn all your power on soon I know their wives miss them.

I LOVE Pho! Such tasty stuff. Where I live is one of the largest concentrations of Vietnamese living outside of Vietnam so there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. Do you put everything on it, including the jalapenos?

Enjoy!

We didn't really eat dinner tonight. We had a late breakfast, then an afternoon snack. After church is wine and cheese hour, so I'll probably just snack again.

Hope there are some veggies so that I don't have a totally unhealthy day!

Kids come Sunday for lunch and I made spaghetti, bread, salad and rice crispy treats. We had leftovers for dinner. Tomorrow we are having flank steak that I started marinating this morning. I will get slack becuase I bought brocolli and it is not one of DH's favorite veggies.
