Hey everyone!
I am new to this group! I have actually been reading advice from y’all for awhile now but decided to join.
Our first experience with chickens was one lone baby chick we called, Nugget. She was a very surprise gift from a little girl who was our neighbor, and she gave her to my daughter in a small box chirping her little heart out. I had ZERO experience with chickens and my husband and I looked at each other like, “what in the world are we gonna do with a chicken?”

It is funny now but she wedged her way into our hearts and we fell in love with chickens. She was the absolute coolest chick around, and she was primarily my daughters baby until we tragically lost her a day ago due to a coyote tearing into the coop and killing her. My daughter was absolutely devastated as well as our whole family cause for two years, Nugget was the best pet I’ve ever had.
She’d eat with the dogs on our back deck, chill in your lap when you were sitting down, loved to be picked up and cuddled. Followed my daughter everywhere! She was a gem and her presence will be so missed.
Before all of this, over a week ago I happened to walk into tractor supply and heard these sweet chirps coming from the middle of the store and one look from my husband, he knew I wouldn’t leave empty handed! Lol. So I left with four chicks, and two ducks! (one duck did pass after two days and well, my husband being the bleeding heart he is after seeing me laying on the floor crying my eyes out while holding the baby duck he brought me home two more.) I held it as it passed, and it broke my heart into pieces.
I’m 100 percent certain these won’t be the last chicks I end up with but for now, I am bonding with these babies as well as my daughter who is helping heal her heart. I am excited to be part of this group, be a chicken and duck mama, and I’ve gotten so much information and advice from you all. All I want is to raise and have healthy babies!
Thank you!
