OMG bundle up and quit whinning. Your not gonna get frostbite in 20 degree weather. But seriously, I are your nesting boxes higher then the roosts? That would cause a problem, and you would need to lower them. Or you can deal with the bit of poo on them and just wash it off.
okay, maybe i am. but we do get below zero weather. yikes! and this is like a no glove operation. the box is about level with the roost, but they are nowhere near each other. its a 1970's wooden tack shed. [a bit bigger than the rubbermaid sheds of today and wood] this thing is bolted in, and im not even sure it'll work with them if they get bigger. that may be the problem. ideas? anybody? anybody? Beuller?
.....It gets -20 here for weeks at a time so I know about cold, Maybe block the existing boxes and place some temp ones below. my girls are laying and sleeping in the boxes. The coop roof is not high enough for them to roost. A problem I plan to fix in the spring.
I have a little curtain that drapes over half of the opening. I think they like that and it is warmer. I also have a lot of hay and alfalfa in the nesting boxes. I tried the fake egg but the chickens NEVER went in that nesting box, still don't...
