Hello I am Mallory and currently in Wisconsin.
I joined awhile ago and have been reading up on all kinds of things from incubators, brooders, hatching, and coops to raising chickens, ducks, pheasants and quail. Everything here is very helpful and quite addicting.
I am still finding my way around here and whenever I search Google it always brings me back to BYC's
I have recently become obsessed with chickens this year after failing a couple years ago. My husband and 3 kids are enjoying the country life on a 1 acre farm raising animals. We currently have 18 hens consisting of 3 buff orpingtons(Rosemary, Sage, and Basil), 3 golden laced wyandottes(Polka Dottie, Goldie, and Lacy), 3 calico princesses(Honey, Peanutbutter, and Pickles), 5 black australorps (Blackberry, Olive, Bellatrix, Nella, and Sparkles,) 4 rhode island reds (Zelda, Paprika, Cinnamon, and Mavis) and 1 rhode island rooster(Ferdinand) who is aggressive sometimes. All bought from tractor supply.
We also have 4 white campbell ducks, 8 ringneck pheasants, and currently have 77 quail eggs in lockdown in the incubator. Hopefully hatching today or tomorrow, no pipping yet. We will be using them for meat, eggs, reproduction and selling. We have intentions of also hatching ducks, pheasants, and chickens as well.
Aside from birds my son shows pigs in 4-H and my husband takes care of the butcher hogs as well as broiler chickens in spring. We also love gardening, canning, fishing, and hunting.
We used to have goats and hopefully will have some again one day.
This is all a big change from living in the city but now that we are here there is no going back.
