I would keep the incubators for 6 months. After then, you can be sure you've made the right decision. And, the price you would get from them would be the exact same in 6 months. I know how much you love your birds and you may want to go a different direction with the chickens in the future and really appreciate having those bators!

Thanks for the advice everyone. Sounds like a good idea. That will be the best option I think too.

I know all about getting "burned out". And sick of cleaning waterers.

That's the worst part, isn't it. I'm changing water 2-3 times a day because it's so hot here. And I'm going through almost 50 lbs of chick starter a day (yep, 50 lbs). And that's just chick starter. I won't even get into the "big bird feed".

But, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have them. I'd be bored stiff. Good luck, SGM, whatever you decide to do.

And, TF, congrats on your babies! They are adorable.

And I hope all of your little Millies from Lynne hatch! Good luck!

Well I haven't been going through that much chick starter, more like a 50lb bag a week as well as that much in layer. We're down now to about a 25lb a week. Maybe less since the last group was sold.

I prefer the goats to chickens, though I do love to watch some clucking about in the yard. I can't say we won't still have a few misc. hanging around, but I'm not aiming to have a hobby in it anymore.

It's all about what you like best. I just found a new home for my 2 little pygmies. They lived in the chicken yard for 3 years, but I just couldn't take it anymore. Just having to goat-proof everything. I loved them, and it was hard, but I just couldn't do it anymore. I'd like to have a separate area for them in the future, and maybe get a couple more goats. They really are a joy to have, so much fun to watch. I miss them.

Yes that's true. To each their own. We started with goats and expanded the pasture etc. The chickens have basically been using part of our buck barn for a while and I'm ready to empty it back out and clean it out again and use it for breeding pens for the goats this fall. I'm going to need it for that more than I need chickens anyway.

Once the garden dies off in a couple months it'll be back to normal. Basically how it was last year when breeding time came.

I totally understand where you're coming from with goats and goat-proofing.

Yes, our goats would be into everything if we let them. I occasionally let them out in the back yard but I have to watch them. I don't want them climbing on chicken cages or getting in my garden. As for their own pasture, they don't get into anything in there.

We've thought about trying Mini-Donkeys. Originally as a guardian, but more as a pet. I love horses and have never had any and really don't have room for horses so we're going to try donkeys. I have a lot of rearranging to do before that of course, but its something we're looking into.
