Hey Patty, Gator, Mike and other mille cochin enthusiasts

Thanks for the PMs.

And I also think a mini-mille photo page would be wonderful. I, for one, am just learning how to do a "chickie shoot" and I'd be open not only to sharing my birds but getting critiques on photo skills and learn to capture a good, representative image.

My chickens never hold a pose. Does video imaging work well with birds, and then trimming down to the perfect still? Or is the video footage of less clarity?

Some BYCers have such gorgeous photos. I think there must be some tricks I don't know about!

I feel the same way!! I always get a great butt shot

I think it's a combination of a couple things. #1 keep them in a closed area where they can't wander... like a box on its side. #2 take tons of digital pics. 50 shots may get you two really good ones.

I would love to host the mini mille page with all of our info. Why don't we start compiling a few shots. We will do chick, juvenile and adult pics of blondes (wheaten down) reds, buffs, darks, chipmunks, etc. and show how these chicks transform into grown birds.

Maybe we can get somewhere a lot faster if we share

On another note, I got my first eggs yesterday from my milles!!!!

I cannot believe how early they started... probably 4 or 5 months old... not like my 9 month old columbians

Ok girls! It's been too hot today to do anything but take pics of the babies.

I think it is a great idea that we track the progress of each down color.

The following pics are one week old chicks. Eighteen hatched & there is an equal number of Chipmunk, Blonde & Blonde with the red cast to the back.

And one more of the Blonde w/Red

I will take pics every 3 weeks & post as they change. Msbear, would you like me to send them directly to you or post to this thread?? Thanks so much for taking on this task!!!!!

Great photos Lynne,
I don't know whether it's of any interest or help to any of you. I think the red cast to the wheaten (blonde) is probably mahogany which causes a rich red ground colour. I think the 'chipmonk' chicks are probably half chipmonk & half brown. The very light wheaten chicks are rather interesting to me, in particular as I sometimes get some almost white chicks from my reds.

Great Pics!!! I can just copy them from this thread and start a page... with everyone's consent. I know there are quite a few of you who can take great chick photo shoots!

about genetics, what is the most desirable color of chick down if you are striving to produce a Mille Fleur Cochin?

I have D'Uccles & they all have the Chipmunk coloring when born. However, I have gotten some lovely MF coloring from my Blonde (Wheaton) Cochin chicks.

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!!!

Ok, I am not very good at getting them to pose or the light just right. But, here are a few pics of the chicks I got from tate.
At least the ones that would hold still, lol.
