Hey Texas folk

Okay, I'm not in Texas but I am a native Texan.

Aside from that, there are hogs back behind my place here in Oklahoma. I've not had any issues with hogs and my chickens. The hogs stay away from human habitats, for the most part (as I am sure someone will post an exception).

I'm not from Texas either. My DH was born there, does that count?

I know the farmers around here are having a problem with the hogs tearing up their meadows. I know this because my DH has been invited on several hog hunts.
The hogs are not coming up around the house.

I'm in Texas, and I've never heard of wild hogs messing with chickens. As a rule, they stick to tearing up yards and crops. That said, my Grandpa did have a mean old hog once that chomped the leg off a chicken that got a little too close to his pen.

If they did break into a pen, it would most likely be for the water or feed inside, not the birds.

Sorry, but they pretty much eat anything that moves, or doesn’t move. Wild hogs can cause great damage, destroying habitat and killing other animals, including ground-nesting birds and their young and fawn deer.

I was born in Texas, but now live next door in New Mexico. We have a huge ferrel hog problem here. I do not live close to the enough to the brush to have to worry about the hogs. My house is in the middle of flatness everywhere with no cover for them. If you live close to the woods or brush I would keep an eye out. A hog will eat chickens.

My cousin bud has offered an open invitation to an open season all you can shoot hog hunt whenever I'm in west Texas

He doesn't keep birds, but the dig and root around and tear up the ground. Since he's on private property..... I may take him up on it next time he's down there

We see evidence of hogs frequently on our place here in south central Texas. Usually they are out at night and the chickens are penned up. Never had a problem (knock on wood) yet.
