We became chicken parents this past December when Henrietta adopted us. We think she's a Black Austrolorp. In early April, we got 6 chicks - 3 Jersey Giants and 3 Rhode Island Reds. Sadly, one of the RI Reds passed away last week due to an accident,
but everyone else is hale and hearty.
Hubby and I (both in our early 60s) have really enjoyed caring for Henrietta. So we, like many here, decided we needed more chickens. Haha! Theyāre such sweet creatures. Hubby grew up on a farm and he's enjoying making a little backyard farm environment in our suburban back yard.
I like to read, paint, and cook. My husband is a gifted carpenter who likes to renovate houses and tend his fruit trees and gardens.
We have 2 sons (I'm their bonus mom) and 6 grandkids. We also have 3 cats, 2 Boxer mix rescue babies, and a 30-gal tank full of tropical fish.
We discovered BYC this winter through Facebook Reels a seasoned homesteader friend has been sending us since she learned about Henrietta and our new chicks. I learned about your website just tonight whole I was answering admin questions to join the BYC group on Facebook.
