I've been reading this forum for a couple weeks, but decided not to join until I was a full-fledged chicken rancher myself. I claimed that title about 3 and a half hours ago. I stopped at the feed store on the way home and bought 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 2 Gold Stars, and one Araucana, all pullets. Between feed, bedding, waterer, feeder and heat lamp, I spent a lot more on chick "stuff" than I did on chicks! I'm hoping the girls will keep the bugs under control in my garden, keep us in eggs, contribute generously to our compost pile, and give our cats a run for their money (once they're big enough to hold their own). Plus, there's just something about the sound of clucking chickens that I relish.
You've got a great community here. I'm proud to now be a part of it. Now, it's time to go back to sorting through all the coop designs and start noodling up my own. I guess I've got about 6 weeks or so to get it done!
