(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got my first chickens over 2 years ago, but I was raised having them & many family members had farms & always had them.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently there is just my little Bantam Cochin flock of 1 rooster, 2 young hens, and 3 pullets. I recently sold all my layers to concentrate on breeds that I really love. I have Brahmas & Faverolles coming in April that will be coop ready & off heat.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Bantam Cochins & soon Brahmas & Faverolles.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The joy they bring me in caring for them & watching them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Painting, writing, reading, camping, kayaking, soap making
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a licensed esthetician & opening my own spa this spring/summer. My husband is a long haul trucker, my mom lives with us since my dad passed away 23 years ago, and all my kids are grown & have given me 7 amazing grandkids.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was searching for chicken information & it was in the search results. I like the idea of sharing information & knowledge.
