Hey yall! GETTING CHICKS from IDEAL ..need advice!!

I ordered 3 Buff Orphingtons, 3 Rhode Island Reds, and 2 Easter Eggers...

ONLY 8..


do you guys think only 8 will make it ? Will they be able to keep warm?

They are suppose to ship the 7th of sep. ..I can always add 2 to my order just in case.


Also, i did tell them no MALESS! hopefully the will listen...is this too small of an order for them to survive since its only 8!

Does IDEAL normally add extra females..if they are not allowed to add males?

This is my first time ordering from them and would like to know!!

It's plenty warm enough that they'll be fine. I got my Silkies from Ideal last June. It says on their web sight that if you don't want males added for warmth to tell them. I need to go back and check their web sight though because I didn't even realize you could order less than 15. I really like them and their communication was excellent. If I ever order more chicks I'll go back to them.

i would get one male becuse yu would wnt to have babies then yu would have to go thorugh the process of finding some eggs to hatch

I ordered 9 babies a couple weeks ago. They didn't include extras but all arrived safely. I've ordered from them a couple times before and the birds grew up to be the breed/sex that I ordered so you should be fine! Good luck with your chicks.

Well, my chicks arrived okay: one DOA and another died of shipping stress, but the ones that survived (five) are doing pretty good. Only I wouldn't advise you to buy from IDEAL if you're wanting pure stock: they have a reputation here on BYC for sending some weird stuff once in awhile, stuff that wouldn't come from pure stock. Plus, their stock (in my experience) is puny and does not grow or mature like it should. (An example someone here on BYC gave me was this: this person ordered Sumatras from IDEAL awhile ago, and, although they met the standard everywhere else, they were TINY.)

I can't speak for all their breeds but I've grown out some of their Buff Orps, Cochins and Rocks and all of them were nice sized. The Orps were much better quality than the ones I got from Cackle. I've got two little EE Pullets from that last order out in the brooder now and they are absolutely adorable! I can't wait to see those pics!
