Hi! I am happy to join this fabulous group of backyard chicken raising fanatics :) I've used many a discussion thread in trying to figuring things out as I was preparing for my babies. I am so thankful (already) for this community. I have 3 golden comets and three white plymouth rocks that are 3 weeks and six araucana/ameraucana one day olds. All pullets. I am so excited to be raising little chickies! I am brand spanking new to raising chickens and look forward to asking many a question and gleaning knowledge from those of you who have been around the block a bit with chickens.

Welcome & Congratulations!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Welcome to BYC!
When you say "Araucana/Ameraucana" - is that how they were listed by the place you purchased them from? If so, what you have are actually known as "Easter Eggers" -- rather than being either of the pure breeds listed above, they are mixed breed birds that are the results of crosses designed to produce colorful eggs. The good news is, these crosses are actually more prolific layers than their purebred counterparts....*and* they come in such a wonderful variety of color/appearance that they are like surprise packages as they feather out
