Hi everyone! I'm Rachel from Greene County NY. I got into chickens by chance one day when a friend called and asked if I wanted a rooster from a barn near her house. She said they were trying to starve him out and didn't want him anymore. Of course I said yes... I'm a sucker for a critter in need... even though I knew nothing about owning chickens! He was a sweet old Leghorn With a gimpy frostbitten foot and I just loved him. Not wanting him to be lonely I went out the next day and got him 3 hens (still not knowing anything about owning chickens!) And he perked right up! Well that was about a year ago and Ol' Bill my leghorn has since passed away, but I've been collecting chickens (and knowledge about owning them!) Since then, and I absolutely love it! I still have lots to learn so I'm hoping all y'all can help me along the way!

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
