I am new to chickens. My first chickens are about 6 weeks old now. I previously kept a small number of quail.
I've got 27 chickens of various breeds. 21 were a straight run hatchery choice so we'll see how different breeds do in my area. The rest are ancona and wyandotte hens as a bit of hedge against bad luck.
I enjoyed quail eggs. It's also a lot of fun to see the wonder and excitement in the kids' eyes as they watch the chickens.
Other hobbies include gardening and trying to build something of a permaculture system on our three acres.
