I have been looking at this site for a couple of years, waiting for the time when I could actually have my own chickens. I am excited as we just moved to the country...I just picked out 12 chicks at TSC and another 12 at a local feed store. The first 12 were supposed to be black australorps but I have a sneaky suspicion that they may actually be barred rocks. The other 12 are rhode island reds. I am having so much fun watching them grow and being entertained by them. The kids absolutely adore holding them. I am very glad to be here!
Hello and
If you post some pictrues of your chicks we can help you identify their breed!
Anyway, I hope you have many rewarding experiences raising your chickens, don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site!
Solid black chickens are black with yellow bellies as chicks and barred chickens are black with yellow bellies and a white/yellow head spot as chicks. It's impossible to confuse the two once they're grown, but they look very similar as chicks.
